SIX REASONS HUNTERS PLANT ALFALFA + CLOVER™
WHEN YOUR GOAL IS GROWING BETTER DEER, START WITH BETTER NUTRITION.
Maximum Protein Potential
One of the highest-quality forage combinations available for supporting body growth, antler development, and overall herd health.
Season-Long Production
Produces abundant, highly palatable forage throughout the growing season with proper management.
Built To Last
Everlast Ladino Clover provides a perennial foundation that continues producing year after year with proper fertility and maintenance.
Excellent Digestibility
Highly digestible forage allows deer to efficiently utilize the nutrients they're consuming rather than simply filling their stomachs.
Naturally Improves Soil
The clover components fix atmospheric nitrogen, reducing future fertilizer requirements while improving overall soil health.
Premium Forage Quality
Rather than relying on multiple filler species, Alfalfa + Clover™ focuses on two of the highest-quality forages available, creating a plot built around nutrition instead of volume.

PREPARATION
Begin with a clean, weed-free seedbed by spraying existing vegetation or lightly tilling the soil. Remove excessive residue and create a firm seedbed with good seed-to-soil contact.
SOIL TEST & FERTILITY
Conduct a soil test before planting. Adjust soil pH to 6.5–7.0 and apply phosphorus and potassium according to soil test
recommendations. Alfalfa requires adequate fertility to reach its full
potential.
PLANTING RATE
Broadcast (Prepared Seedbed): 15 lbs/acre
Broadcast (No-Till): 18 lbs/acre
Drill: 12 lbs/acre
PLANTING DEPTH
Plant ¼ inch deep or less. Small-seeded legumes should
never be planted too deep. Firm the seedbed after planting to improve
seed-to-soil contact.
TIMING
Plant in late summer through early fall when soil
temperatures have cooled below 70°F, or in early spring where conditions are
favorable. Fall planting is generally preferred throughout the Southeast.
MOISTURE
Plant into adequate soil moisture or immediately before a soaking rainfall. Consistent moisture during establishment is essential for developing a healthy perennial stand.
ADJUSTING FOR PLS & GERMINATION
Recommended planting rates assume 100% Pure Live Seed (PLS) and 100% germination. Actual seed quality varies by lot. To determine an adjusted planting rate, divide the recommended seeding rate by the PLS percentage multiplied by the germination percentage, both expressed as decimals. Adjusting for PLS and germination helps ensure proper stand density, uniform establishment, and maximum long-term performance.

Know Before You Grow
Is Alfalfa + Clover™ an annual or perennial food plot?
It's primarily a perennial blend. The Everlast™ Ladino Clover and Buckshot™ Alfalfa provide long-term forage production, while the White Cloud Crimson Clover establishes quickly and provides additional
nutrition during the first growing season.
Can I plant Alfalfa + Clover™ in the South?
Absolutely. When planted in well-drained soils with proper fertility and pH, Alfalfa + Clover™ performs exceptionally well throughout the Southeast.
Does alfalfa require special soil conditions?
Yes. Alfalfa performs best in well-drained soils with a soil pH of 6.5–7.0. A soil test and proper lime application are highly
recommended before planting.
Can I hunt over Alfalfa + Clover™?
Yes, but Alfalfa + Clover™ is designed primarily as a nutrition plot rather than a destination hunting plot. It excels at improving herd health and can be complemented with attraction-focused blends like Trophy Acre™ for hunting season.
How long will the stand last?
With proper fertility, weed control, and management, Alfalfa + Clover™ can remain productive for multiple growing seasons, making it an excellent long-term investment for your property.
How much area does one bag cover?
One 5 lb bucket plants up to ⅓ acre under normal planting conditions.
What fertilizer should I use?
Start with a soil test and adjust pH as needed. Apply phosphorus and potassium according to soil test recommendations, and use Backwoods Fuel™ Brassicas + Clover to help maximize forage production and long-term stand performance.
Can I mix Alfalfa + Clover™ with other food plot blends?
While it can be mixed with compatible perennial species, Alfalfa + Clover™ is formulated to perform best as a stand-alone perennial nutrition plot, allowing each species to establish and persist without
excessive competition.
